August 2026: Updates From The Field

Highlights from August: a completed maize harvest in Kenya, English and cooking courses for Iraqi refugees in Jordan, vocational training for teenagers in Nigeria, the first harvest growing in South Sudan, and agricultural and leadership programs in Syria.

This past month, your support continued to create meaningful change across communities in Africa and the Middle East. From completing a successful maize harvest in Kenya to preparing for the first harvest on our farm in South Sudan, we are helping provide food security where it is needed most. At the same time, our teams are equipping refugees, farmers, and young people with practical skills and leadership opportunities that can help families become more self-sufficient and communities grow stronger.

Here are the highlights from August:

KENYA

Maize Harvest Finished

After months of hard work, the maize harvest in Kenya is now complete, producing approximately 80 bags of maize from 15 acres of farmland. The harvest will be milled into flour for ugali and nutritious porridge, providing reliable food for vulnerable children and families during the school holidays. This successful harvest is another important step toward strengthening food security and helping communities become more self-sufficient.

JORDAN

English and Cooking Courses

In Amman, Jordan, The Blessing Projects team has launched a five-month practical and theoretical training program in English and cooking for more than 50 Iraqi Christian refugees. Many of these families fled Iraq after ISIS invaded and threatened Christian communities, and are now working to rebuild their lives and prepare for new opportunities.

The courses are designed to provide practical skills that can lead to employment while helping participants strengthen their English in preparation for future work and study opportunities in Australia.

NIGERIA

Equipping Young People with Practical Skills

During a one-week holiday Bible School organized by ECWA's Gospel Children Ministry, our team supported vocational training for 40 teenagers in the production and use of domestic disinfectants, including liquid soaps, Dettol, and Izal. The training combined biblical teaching with practical skills that can provide future opportunities for income and self-reliance. This initiative reflects TBP's commitment to investing in the next generation and creating developmental opportunities that help young people build a stronger future.

SOUTH SUDAN

Preparing for the First Harvest

After months of hard work clearing and preparing our farm in South Sudan, our first harvest is now growing and is expected in October. The farm will provide much-needed food for impoverished families in the surrounding villages as well as local schools. In an area facing severe food insecurity, this first harvest marks an important milestone and a step toward creating a sustainable source of food for vulnerable communities.

SYRIA

Planting for a Sustainable Future

Our team has launched an agricultural training program for more than 25 Christian farmers in the suburbs of Latakia, helping create job opportunities for more than 70 farmers and strengthen vulnerable families who have chosen to remain in their villages. TBP is helping plow fields and has distributed more than 250 olive trees, with plans to provide hundreds of apple and almond trees as well. By investing in agriculture, this project will help families develop small businesses and build sustainable sources of income for their daily needs.

Equipping Young Christian Leaders

In Damascus, we are supporting and training more than 250 Christian scouts to become leaders who serve and strengthen their communities. Through this program, young men and women are learning practical skills, leadership, and the importance of caring for those around them.

As Syria continues to rebuild, investing in these young Christians is an investment in the future of their communities—helping raise a generation prepared to lead with compassion, responsibility, and service.
