Our team visited three schools—Mucibao, Karoroha, and Witeithya Comprehensive Schools—where they quickly identified the pressing struggles of these communities. Harsh weather conditions, including hail and even snowfall, make farming both difficult and costly. Many students come from single-parent households or are orphaned, further straining their ability to access education and basic needs.
During our visit, we found 17 households and 48 students facing severe financial hardship. Many children were unable to attend school due to the cost, while families suffered from food insecurity, inadequate shelter, and little access to healthcare. Without stability, education often became an afterthought, further trapping these families in a cycle of poverty.
We knew that in order to make a real difference, we needed both immediate relief and long-term sustainability. Here’s how we stepped in:
- Subsidized housing costs while working toward permanent solutions.
- Provided food supplies and seeds to help families build self-sufficiency.
- Helped families rent small plots of land for farming, creating an ongoing source of food and income.
- Covered school fees, uniforms, and books to ensure students could stay in school.
- Sponsored a school feeding program for one full term, ensuring children had at least one nutritious meal each day.
One-time aid is not enough—we are committed to ongoing monthly follow-ups to ensure real progress and lasting change. By continuing to check in on these families and schools, we can adjust our approach, provide additional support as needed, and work toward permanent solutions.
These visits reinforced the urgent need for collective action. When we come together, we can break cycles of poverty and create a future where every child has the opportunity to thrive. Join us in making a lasting impact.
