The ongoing conflict between Turkish and Kurdish forces along the Iraqi-Turkish border has displaced thousands of families, leaving children without access to education as well as many other things. According to recent reports, over 1 million people are displaced internally (UNHCR), with nearly 60% of school-age children in affected areas being unable to attend classes due to damaged infrastructure and lack of resources.

Our team is proud to announce the official opening of a newly reconstructed school in the village of Sharanesh. This school ensures that around 150 children, who were on the verge of missing their academic year, due to the conflict, now have a safe and nurturing space to continue their education.

The school’s grand opening was honored by the presence of Archbishop Azad and Ms. Lina Bahram, a representative of the Assyrian community in Iraq. Their support underscores the vital role this school will play in the lives of Christian families and other affected communities in the region.

For these children, education is more than just learning—it’s a lifeline to stability, opportunity, and hope. Before our team's intervention, the school was severely damaged, leaving students without a place to learn. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, we stepped in to reconstruct the school, equip it with necessary materials, and provide teachers dedicated to guiding these students forward.

This school is more than just a building; it’s a testament to resilience and the power of community-driven change.

The work, however, is far from over. This school is only one step forward as many more children and families are suffering. We continue to seek support to expand the educational opportunities and resources for the vast population in need within this region. Together, we can turn uncertainty into opportunity and build a brighter future for the next generation.
